A thermocouple junction is the point in a thermocouple where two dissimilar metal wires are joined together. This junction is the sensing element of the thermocouple, creating a small electrical voltage when exposed to temperature changes.
The voltage is produced due to the Seebeck effect, where temperature differences between the junction and the reference end cause electrons to flow.
There are two types of junctions: measuring (hot) junction, which is exposed to the process temperature, and reference (cold) junction, maintained at a known temperature for accurate measurements.
