Short-Wavelength IR Thermometer for Measuring Low Temperatures
The Optris CTi 4ML infrared (IR) pyrometer allows precise measurement of metals and very fast processes at temperatures starting from 0°C and rising to 500°C. The short wavelength sensitivity of the IR pyrometer makes it suitable for metals, metal oxides, ceramics and other materials with unknown or changing emissivity.
The Optris CTi 4M infrared temperature sensor is also of course suitable for many other materials too such as PET preforms and plastic injection moulded parts. The Optris short wavelength low temperature pyrometers have an extremely fast response time of just 320μs, making this our fastest sensor and therefore ideal for high-speed processes.
The high speed temperature sensor has the smallest sensing head available in the world at just 14mm diameter x 28mm long and allows the sensor to be installed in applications where space is at a premium. The separate electronics enclosure provides a full range of outputs and inputs as standard including Voltage, mA and Thermocouple.
Integration with modern control systems is made easy with a choice of optional digital interface cards including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Ethernet TCP/Modbus TCP, EtherCAT, IO-Link, Modbus RTU, RS485, RS232 and dual isolated relay outputs.
Application StoryAdditional Information about Optris IR Pyrometer
Optris CTi 4ML industrial infrared temperature sensor has a built in USB interface USB interface and can be used with license-free Compact Connect software to configure the sensor by PC and record temperature measurements instead of traditional analogue or thermocouple outputs. The infrared temperature sensor and pyrometers from Optris can now also be easily operated from a smartphone using the IRmobile App for Android.
A temperature calibration service, as well as a full range of accessories, are available to purchase for the Optris Compact infrared pyrometers.

Areas of Application for the Optris CTi 4M
The IR pyrometer Optris CTi 4ML has a measuring wavelength of 2.2 µm to 6.0 µm is ideal for the temperature measurements of metallic surfaces and composite materials during processing. Its low temperature range from 0°C to 500 °C makes the temperature sensor a popular measuring device for every kind of low-temperature measurement of metals and other materials.
FAQs
What is an IR Pyrometer?
An IR pyrometer is a device used to measure temperature without making direct contact with the object being measured. It works by detecting and measuring the infrared radiation emitted by an object. By analysing the intensity of the infrared radiation, the pyrometer can determine the object’s temperature. An infrared pyrometer is commonly used in industrial applications for non-contact temperature measurement.
What is a High Speed Temperature Sensor?
A high-speed temperature sensor is a device designed to measure temperature with rapid response and sampling capabilities. They’re capable of capturing temperature readings at a fast rate, allowing for real-time monitoring of temperature changes. High-speed temperature sensors are often used in applications where quick and accurate temperature measurements are essential, such as in industrial processes, research, and development of high-speed systems.
What is a Thermometer for Measuring Low Temperatures?
A thermometer for measuring low temperatures is called a cryogenic thermometer. These specialised thermometers are designed to accurately measure temperatures at extremely low levels, typically below -100 degrees Celsius. They are commonly used in scientific research, industrial applications, and in the field of cryogenics.
