Thermowell Fabricated Pocket Sensor
Fabricated pockets are generally used in liquid-filled applications where it is impractical to drain the system simply to replace a failed probe. The PPL51 thermowell pocket comprises a fitting that has a male thread to screw into your process and a female thread which can accept your sensor.
The fabricated pocket material is 316 stainless steel and the thermowell has an operating range of -75 to +800°C. Below the fitting is a closed-end stem, the diameter and length can be made to your requirements.
Our high-quality TIG welding facility means that we can supply a pocket that meets your needs. Choose from pocket diameter, pocket length and thread types. We will do the rest. We can also make the pockets to suit other sensors that you may use such as dial thermometers, rod thermostats and bimetallic gauges.
When fitted into your application you simply need to slide the probe in, pushing it in so it makes contact at the tip. Then tighten the gland nut and olive to secure it in place.

What is a Thermowell Pocket?
A thermowell pocket, also known as a thermowell, is a device used in industrial processes to protect temperature sensors, such as thermocouples or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), from the harsh conditions of the process environment. It consists of a cylindrical or tubular metal enclosure that is inserted into a process pipe or vessel.
The purpose of a thermowell pocket is to isolate the temperature sensor from direct contact with the process fluid or gas while still allowing accurate temperature measurement. By placing the sensor inside the thermowell, it is shielded from corrosive materials, high pressures, and extreme temperatures that could otherwise damage or affect its performance.
