Short Wavelength Optris PI 1M Compact Infrared Cameras for Metals Industry
The IR camera has a short wavelength of 1μm and a 1kHz frame rate for a faster process features a real-time analogue output with a 1ms response time and offers a variety of temperature measurement ranges. A 1064nm CWL notch filter is available for lenses with focal lengths less than or equal to 1in.
With a spectral range of 0.92 – 1.1 μm, the Optris PI 1M is ideal for the likes of metal tempering and forging processes. This is because these exhibit a distinctly higher emissivity at the short measurement wavelength of 1μm than at measurements in the previously conventional wavelength range of 8-14 μm. It is also suitable for welding applications and also laser-based applications such as additive manufacturing processes.
As well as seeing the thermal process, the short-wavelength infrared imager’s high-performance sensor electronics enable a short reaction time of just 1 ms for displaying temperature measurements for every pixel.
With a large measurement temperature range of 450–2000 °C, the Optris thermal camera can suit all demands in the fields of metal production and processing.

Optris PI 1M Additional Information & Software
A full range of accessories and calibration is available for each Optris thermal imager.
As with all of our Optris PI cameras, the PI 1M comes with the complimentary PI Connect software package giving you quick and easy access to all of the features of your camera, as well as an SDK option. The Optris PI Connect Software offers an extensive analysis of measurement data both on and offline and can be customised to suit even the most unique applications.
Optris infrared cameras and pyrometers can also be operated using the IRmobile App for Android in the Google Play Store.
Our newly introduced PI 05M short wavelength camera is an evolution of our PI 1M camera which operates at a much shorter wavelength of 500nm and a measuring range of 1000 to 2000°C making it suitable for molten metals.

The Optris PI Series
The Optris PI precision line offers imaging infrared temperature measurement devices for numerous industrial applications.
Experiencing real-time thermal camera images with a frame rate of up to 128 Hz, capturing and saving fast measurement results as snap-shots or video sequences can indicate even the smallest changes in temperature,
Including optics and cable, the Optris PI thermal imaging cameras weigh less than 320 grams, making them the smallest infrared cameras in the world (dimensions up to 46 mm x 56 mm x 90 mm).
What is an IR Camera?
An IR camera, or infrared camera, is a device that captures images based on the infrared radiation emitted by objects rather than visible light. It allows us to see and analyse heat patterns, temperature variations, and hidden objects that are not visible to the naked eye, enabling applications in fields like thermography, security, and surveillance.
What is a Short-Wavelength Infrared Camera?
A short-wavelength infrared camera is a device that captures images using infrared radiation in the shorter wavelength range. It can detect heat emitted by objects beyond the range of human vision. These cameras are used to visualise temperature differences and capture thermal images for various applications, including industrial inspections and scientific research.
